In brief

Built as a brickworks during 1851 next to the Harborne Railway Line, at one point the site was used to manufacture toy cars by the Chad Valley Group. Now a business park.

Weekin Works - history

The Weekin Works was built in Victorian times during 1851 on the banks of the Chad Brook near the Harborne railway line. Originally a brickworks, the site evolved into a commercial laundry for some years. The site benefited from being next to the Harborne railway line, serving the old Harborne Station until the 1960s.

The site's most famous period began in 1954 when the Chad Valley Group took over Robert Bros (Gloucester) Ltd, to manufacture "Glevum Toys and Games". The process required further manufacturing space in Harborne, resulting in the transfer of production from Gloucester. The success of Chad Valley peaked in the 1960s, and by 1967 had begun to decline.

It is not clear when the Weekin Works was vacated, but production has ceased in Harborne by the early 1970s.

After a period of decline, the site was used as a transport depot for companies such as Frost Transport. Unused space was leased to small business for a variety of occupations. Sadly the site continued to decline until the early 1990s.

It became a Business Park when it was bought by local architect and business man Mike Csukas, and he still owns it today.

The property has enjoyed continued investment during the past 20 plus years with ongoing improvement and development of onsite facilites.
